How will Saturday’s game play out?

Sheffield Wednesday team news & injuries:

Sam Hutchinson will be assessed prior to the game and a decision will be made in the 11th hour on him.

Darren Moore will definitely be without Che Dunkley, though. The defender will be out for a few weeks due to suffering an injury on the training ground.

Barnsley team news & injuries:

The Tykes may be without Alex Mowatt this weekend due to his sending off in the week, however Valerian Ismael has stated that the club are appealing against it.

Sheffield Wednesday form:

Moore won his first point as Wednesday manager in the week, drawing 1-1 away to Huddersfield.

They’re really not in good form though, with five wins and one draw in their last six games meaning they find themselves in bottom place in the form table.

Their recent record on the road is very poor as well, losing each of their last five away games.

Barnsley form:

The Tykes continued their push for promotion on Wednesday as they beat Wycombe Wanderers away 3-1.

With five wins and one draw, Barnsley are currently sitting in second place on the form table.

Our Picks for Wednesday Picks – Barnsley V Sheffield Wednesday:

In Focus

1. Will Sheffield Wednesday score in the first half? No

Josh Windass put Wednesday 1-0 up in the 36th minute in the week, however it would be surprising to see it happen again.

The Owls have only scored eight from 18, averaging just 0.44 goals scored per first half when on the road.

Meanwhile, Barnsley have kept a clean sheet in the first 45 minutes in 72% of their games at Oakwell this season.

2. Will Sheffield Wednesday score in the second half? No

Wednesday have scored fewer goals in the second half compared to the first when playing away from home.

They’ve managed to find the net just three times, which means they’re averaging 0.17 goals scored per second 45 when on the road.

As well as that, Barnsley have kept a clean sheet in the second period in over half of their home games this campaign.

3. How many goals will Sheffield Wednesday score? 0

The Owls have failed to find the back of the net in just one of the four games Moore has been in charge of.

It still wouldn’t be a surprise to see them go 90 minutes without a goal, failing to score in 56% of their away games.

Barnsley do have a good defensive record when they play at Oakwell, as well.

In fact, they have kept seven clean sheets whilst conceding 17 times from 18 games, averaging 0.94 goals against per home game.

4. Will Josh Windass score? No

As mentioned earlier, it was Windass’ goal that put Wednesday a goal to the good.

He has now found the back of the net on seven occasions, with six of them coming in the league.

He does have a good record against The Tykes, though, having scored two goals in his two appearances against them.

5. Will Barry Bannan assist a goal? No

The Scotsman has set up a teammate for a goal five times this campaign, four of them coming in the league.

It’s been a while since his last assist as well, coming in the 2-1 win over Middlesbrough back in December.

This will be the sixth time that Bannan will come have come up against Barnsley, registering one assist in his previous five games against them.

6. How many shots on target will Kadeem Harris have? 1

The winger had two attempts at goal on Wednesday, failing to hit the target with either of them.

Harris has now had 29 shots at goal, with six of them testing the opposition goalkeepers. That means he is currently averaging 1.09 shots on target per game.
