Neil Thompson’s side had some disappointment in the week, losing 2-0 away to Coventry on Wednesday night.
Preston didn’t have a midweek game, their previous game came last Sunday as they drew 0-0 at home to Reading.
A win for Wednesday could close the gap between them and Derby if results go their way.
This will be the 114th fixture played between the two sides, the first coming in 1888.
Preston have won the last three games between the sides but overall it’s been pretty even. Wednesday have won 43 games whilst Preston have come out on top on 45 occasions.
On this day: 30th January 1888 – The first time the two sides met came on this day in the FA Cup, Preston coming out 3-1 winners.
How will tomorrow’s game play out?
We take a look…
1. Will Sheffield Wednesday beat Preston North End? Yes
A loss to Coventry in the week saw the end of Wednesday’s four game unbeaten streak in the league.
The Owls have won twice as many games at Hillsborough than they have on the road, with four. They have also won their last three games on home soil.
Tomorrow’s visitors aren’t in the best form coming into tomorrow’s game, with just one win from their last five in all competitions.
Things haven’t been great away from home for Alex Neil’s side, losing five of their last eight games on the road.
2. Will Sheffield Wednesday score in: 45-60
When you look at when Wednesday tend to score their goals it’s fairly spread out. The last goal they did score was in the 60-75th minute period.
While they haven’t yet scored in the final fifteen minutes yet, they’ve scored three goals in each of the other time periods.
Tomorrow’s visitors have actually conceded most of their goals in the 15 minutes after half time.
In fact, 27% of their goals against have come in the 45-60th minute time period.
3. How many goals will Sheffield Wednesday score? 1
Another blank on Wednesday meant that Wednesday’s goal tally stayed on 15 for the season so far.
They do tend to score more at Hillsborough though, scoring nine from 12 games. That’s an average of 0.75 goals per home game.
When playing away from home, Preston have conceded more goals than they have when playing at Deepdale.
Neil’s side have let in 20 goals in 13 games on the road this season, averaging at 1.54 goals conceded per away game.
4. Will Sheffield Wednesday score in the second half? Yes
Due to the answers to the last two questions, this answer is pretty straight forward.
Wednesday have only scored four goals in the second half at Hillsborough. That averages at 0.33 goals per second period.
The thing is, overall Preston have conceded twice as many in the second half than they have in the first.
Away from home, they have let in 12 from 13 second halves, averaging 0.92 goals against per second period each time they play on the road.
5. Will Josh Windass score? No
The English centre forward has managed just two goals in the league this season, the last one coming in the 2-1 loss against Barnsley last month.
He’s only faced Preston on three occasions but has failed to score against them whenever he’s played them.
6. Will Adam Reach assist a goal? No
Reach has got just four goal contributions this campaign with two of them being assists. His last assist was in the 2-1 loss against Norwich at the start of December.
This will be the ninth time Reach has come up against Preston, assisting twice in those games.
