Wednesday Picks: Sheffield Wednesday V Rotherham | Predictions

News March 2, 2021

The Owls welcome Rotherham to Hillsborough tomorrow night as they go head to head in a huge game in the Championship relegation battle.

Tom Pearce, Wednesday Picks predictor (@tompearce97)

Darren Moore was announced as Wednesday’s new manager on Monday morning so they come into it following the 3-2 loss away to Luton in Neil Thompson’s last game in charge.

The visitors also fell to defeat on Saturday as they lost 1-0 at home to Reading.

A win for Wednesday would take them above Rotherham and could potentially close the gap on survival spots if results go their way.

This will be the 41st meeting between the two sides, the first coming in 1934 in the FA Cup where Wednesday came out 3-0 winners.

It was the other way round in the latest meeting as Rotherham won 3-0 in the reverse fixture.

Both of Wednesday’s goals at the weekend came in the first 45 minutes of the game.

3. How many goals will Sheffield Wednesday score? 2

Moore will have only a couple of days with the team but he likes his teams to attack so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Wednesday score a couple of goals.

Rotherham have a better defensive record when playing on the road. They’ve conceded 20 goals from 15 games, averaging 1.33 goals against per away game.

4. Will Josh Windass score? No

The attacking midfielder scored both of Wednesday’s goals at the weekend, his first couple of goals since mid-December.

He has managed just the six goals from 30 games with five of those coming in the Championship.

This will be his fourth appearance against Rotherham in his career, scoring once in his previous three.

5. Will Callum Paterson assist a goal? No

The forward has found the net on six occasions in the league this campaign.

It’s been a while since his last goal though, failing to score in his last five games with his last goal coming at the start of last month.

He has only come up against Rotherham on one occasion coming earlier in on in the season, failing to score in the game.

6. How many shots on target will Sheffield Wednesday have? 4+

Wednesday managed just the three shots on target at the weekend but Moore will hope to get the team playing on the front foot.

They have managed just 94 shots on goal this season, averaging 2.94 shots on target per game.
